NFL star Aaron Rodgers has claimed that actress Shailene Woodley told him she wanted to be with another man just days after accepting his marriage proposal.
Rodgers made the revelation during an appearance on Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast on Thursday, September 10, while reflecting on his failed engagement to the actress.
According to Rodgers, he proposed to Woodley and she accepted, but shortly afterwards, she allegedly told him she wanted to pursue a relationship with another man before they got married.
“I dated Shailene, I proposed and she said yes. She maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision; she could have said no. But not a couple of days after that, she told me, before we got married, like, ‘I got to go fuck this guy,’” he said.
Rodgers also claimed that Woodley removed her engagement ring by March and said the pair made several attempts to reconcile afterwards.
The NFL star disputed claims that he was responsible for Woodley’s reported depression following their breakup, insisting that the circumstances were different from how they had been portrayed publicly.
“Because her story is, I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her, but in actuality she told me that and took off the ring by March,” Rodgers said.
Explaining his decision to speak about the relationship, Rodgers said there were several narratives about their breakup that he believed were inaccurate.
“There’s just a lot of narratives out there that are just not true, and they portray things a certain way because they can get away with it,” he said.
Rodgers also took a swipe at some of his former girlfriends, claiming that their biggest moments of fame came while they were in relationships with him.
“The height of their fame was when they were with me,” he added.
